Aliona Yurtsevich

Born in Belarus, Aliona Yurtsevich comes from severaI creative backgrounds.
Trained as classical pianist in the past she holds Bachelor degree in classical piano and pedagogy (1993/Minsk, Belarus). During 1993-2006 she lived in New York (US) where her creative career shifted towards experimental art and design. Since 2006, Aliona is currently residing and working in Holland. She received Master of Music in Composition (2009/NL) and Master of Arts, Composition in Context (2007/NL) from Utrecht School of Arts, Media & Technology, where she studied composition with Barbara Woof, Marcel Wierkx, and Yannis Kyriakides. During her study she participated in composer residencies and workshops with David Lang (US), David Dramm (NL), in Perfromer '09 at Walter Maas Huis (Bilthoven, NL).
In the past three years of her composing career she composed works for small orchestra, ensembles and solo instruments, as well as music for art-film, installations and dance. Her work was performed at severaI well known venues in Netherlands, Europe and USA: Theater Kikker/Utrecht, "Luister Salon '08-09" at BimHUis/Amsterdam and Korzo Theater /Den Haag, TrytoneFestival Zaal 100/Amsterdam, WEALR festival of electro-acoustic music, San Francisco/US; WAYWARD electro-acoustic flute music festival, Seattle/US, festival Incontemporanea, Ovada (Alexandria)/Italy, International Dance FestivaI/Budapest, Hungary. Her works for solo instruments and ensembles with electronics were performed by ensemble INSOMNIO (NL), gamelan ensemble Gending (NL), flutist Clifford Dunn (US), recorder player Miako Klein (DE), recorder trio _aXolot_ (NL), ensemble MDI (IT). SeveraI pieces for small chamber ensembles with electronics were written and performed at NikolaiKerk/Utrecht during the electro-acoustic music series (2007-09).
Her recent chamber work VIAGGIO INTERIORE [Awakening of Alice] for chamber ensemble and electronic tape received 2nd prize at MINIMUSICDRAMA'2009 (ISCM/SIMC) in Ovada/IT.
As a composer she's developing her own unique style, exploring traditional abilities of acoustic instruments with the main emphasis on the theatrical aspect of the performance, live electron ics, sound spatialization and the sound itself. Coming from severaI creative backgrounds in the past, her work leans towards experimental multimedia sound-theater with the main emphasis on theatricality of the sound and visual (aesthetic) aspect of the performance. Where any additional media chosen to be used are genetically embedded in the score from the start of the creation of the work.
